Christina Woods

Introducing Christina Woods and her business Reel Fitness. Her business provides Irish dance, dance fitness and Pilates classes for children and adults. Christina was the first in the world to create an Irish dance workout, ReelRobics over eight years ago. She is passionate about safe, fun and effective movement for all. Christina has been a dancer her whole life and has danced competitively for eighteen years and then toured the world with Riverdance. She said; “Nothing compares to the high of being on stage and performing, but I wanted to provide my dancers with a little bit of that magic.” Although they do not have an audience, she said every time they step onto the floor it is a performance.

Christina’s ReelRobics is an innovative approach for those who have danced in the past. It makes Irish dance accessible to those who have never had the opportunity. She said it is fun and fitness through dance; its art and physical activity combined. In Christina’s words, its “CRAIC and CARDIO” which is important for both the body, mind and soul. Reel Fitness also provides affordable Irish dance programmes for children through their Reel Dance Academy. Christina teaches non-competitive classes, so there is no need for costumers which saves money on what has became an expensive hobby for families. This way the children are learning simply for fun, friendship and tradition.

Why Christina Woods Started her business Reel Fitness

Christina began her business, Reel Fitness after having the idea to create an adult Irish dance workout. However, it wasn’t until she became a parent that the timing was right. She explained; “Dance had always been my favourite form of exercise, and it was how I’d planned on getting back in shape after having my son.” When she took her very first ReelRobics class and saw the reactions of the dancers, she knew this was about much more than a great cardio workout. Christina then quickly grew her community of like minded (mostly ladies) people. Christina loves the fact she made a career from something she started when she was just three years old. “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life” is something she strongly believes in.

Christina and Mums at Work

Christina joined The MAW Network after seeing it appear on her social media and knew it was the place for her. She became a VIP member right away. She loves the ethos of the group “women supporting women.” Christina also learned the importance of knowing so much about marketing, accounting and technology. She also loves how Mum’s at Work is a supportive, encouraging network of like minded ladies.

Christina's advice for others starting out in business

Christina’s advice for anyone starting out in their business is to find some friends you can turn to for advice and just go for it. She said that you can find this in the Mum's at Work VIP group. She also said; “If you're passionate about something you can probably turn it into a business, no matter how far-fetched it may seem, because your niche will exist, it's a big world out there!”
